Stick the plug into the wall hole where the angry pixies live and tear it up! Lol.This is no frills little practice amp with an unbelievably good tone. As in, if the EQs are cranked that's it's natural, native tone, and you can just pull the bass, mid, and treble back to taste.Īdd in Tone Studio, just about every Boss effect ever, built right in, and a simple lil patch (Sneaky Amps) adds 28 more classic and modern amps, and you don't HAVE to know alot about HOW it does it. And how and when it breaks up depends on the amp it's modeling.Īnd I've heard that the EQ is subtractive. But they're just too expensive, finnicky, and fragile for my needs.Īnd I don't know a TON about how the Katana works, but I know it's supposed to emulate tubes, so if ya crank the pre, you get breakup. Not saying they don't sound great, I love how "full" tubes sound and all the little sympathetic frequencies and "Tube Magic", lol. And I can finally admit that tubes just don't work for me. A few gigs here and there with my band "The Organic Engine" but mostly recording, and practicing. But I've never had a "real" amp besides my all analog Peavey Bandit 65. But I did a LOT of research, before I put mine on layaway, cause $350 is a HUGE deal to me. Also, the Global EQ will change the dynamics of the amp to get you exactly where you want to go with it.Ĭlick to expand.I'm a Katana dude, right off the bat. There's not a tone out there you cant get using the software. Although I can get great tones out of the box, hooking it up to a computer, and using tone studio is where it absolutely shines. You will not lose the integrity of the amp. Then, it has every boss pedal circuitry ever made (just about) inside to choose from as an internal pedalboard. You'll here people say it has a Fender, Marshall, 5150, and Acoustic "modeler." It doesn't it has an acoustic amp, clean amp, crunch amp, lead, and brown amp switch which turns it into 5 different types of amps which sound similar to those above. Also, if you need quiet, buy headphones and rock out. Upgrade it and the stereo recording line out is really nice. You just might be blown away if you do just a little research. Also, there are a couple of great Facebook groups that can help get you started and give you patches to try out. I will say that there's a slight learning curve to get everything out of it but you can still get great tones if you never hook it up to a computer. The SuperChamp X2 and the Vox bruno tb18c1. I sold a couple of nice tube amps after I bought the Katana because they couldn't keep up. Also, the Global EQ will change the dynamics of the amp to get you exactly where you want to go with it. You will not lose the integrity of the guitar. Yes, you can download sneaky amps but they arent made for the Katana. First off, the Katana is not a modeling amp. But, unlike the Champion's, where you have to adjust the gain, tone, and effects that you want every time that you switch to a different amp sound, with the Mustang you can load all your favorite sounds, with all their settings, into different memory (or "preset") locations for instant recall. Unlike the Champion's which have an amp dial and no memory locations, if the factory didn't load the "presets" with something, then you couldn't play the amp without first loading sounds into at least one of the memory locations. Just because a preset comes from the factory with a Twin Reverb with spring reverb doesn't mean you can't change it to a Marshall stack with delay, or a Vox Ac30 with chorus, or any other amps and effects that you choose. But every one of them can be loaded with whichever amp and effects that you choose, with whichever gain, tone settings, and effects that you want. The presets are just memory locations that have been loaded from the factory with certain sounds.
